There isn't really any place for me to write anymore, besides on paper,
that will be very private, or that will be very gratifying, and I'm not

because everyone needs to get things out sometimes, and I might work

The Spike TV Scream Awards broadcast has come and gone, and so has the liveblog - so I figured I should probably give you a run down of the "real" Gerard Way news from the red carpet and beyond. Note: this is not about zombies or hair color.[cut=Click here to see what it IS about]

IESB asked the MCR front man about The Umbrella Academy movie rumors. Gerard confirmed that his Dark Horse comic book series has indeed been optioned by Universal pictures. The film will be directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men) and the two are searching for screenwriters. They have also spoken to costume designer Colleen Atwood (Sweeny Todd) about jumping on board. The first meeting of the minds behind the flick has already occurred, and we can expect the feature film to hit theaters before 2010. Think you guys can wait that long??? Check out the video:

The Umbrella Academy Series 2 is in production, and the first issue will hit the shelves sometime this November. Get stoked!

Gerard told Comic Book Resources, “There’s going to be something next year I put out from Dark Horse that’s totally different from ‘Umbrella,’ I’m very excited about it. I’m working on it with another writer, I’m very excited about it.” He also said he hopes Gabriel Ba will climb on board with the aforementioned mystery project. Now I feel stupid for not asking him about The Black Rider. I really hope that's what he's up to. And could this "other writer" Gerard speaks of perhaps be the other Way brother?

Gabriel Ba, artist for The Umbrella Academy, took home the Scream Award for Best Comic Book Artist. The Umbrella Academy was also nominated for best comic book, along with worthy opponents, "Astonishing X-Men," "Hack/Slash," "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier," "The Walking Dead," and "Y: The Last Man." The latter of these took home the Scream Award.

Apparently the "space pod" I referred to in my report about Gerard at the Screams was actually something called the "Owl Ship" from another thing called "The Watchmen." Since I have no idea what this stuff means, I was also told that referring to it as a "space pod" was acceptable. Anyway, Gerard did a segment during the show from inside the Owl Ship, which looks like this:

How do you guys feel about the Umbrella Academy win tonight? What about the loss? Think the decisions were justified? Anything missing from this list? Discuss in the comments.[/cut]

Kerli = Bjork + Britney + Heart Shaped Box (and her Scream Awards performance totally rocked.)

Up-and-coming Estonian pop-star Kerli performed her (soon-to-be-massive) hit song, "Walking On Air," in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 18th for the taping of Spike TV's 2008 Scream Awards. This little gothic Lolita provides us with a much-needed new blend of goth-infused trip-hop that tickles the spine and sends oxygen rushing to the brain - and she's cute as a little button! [cut=What did you think about her performance?] While the word "cute" may reek with discredit, don't be mislead - her dark, dreamy pop music deserves much more than a fighting chance.

Kerli's Scream Awards performance was nothing short of massive sensory overload. It included stunning background projections of scenery and body parts, massive amounts of fake snow & glitter (I could've sworn I felt the temperature drop when snow started pumping into the amphitheater...), and interpretive back-up dancers wearing "creepy" white masks - with the volume at a brain-massaging decibel level. My thoughts: Bjork. Disagree? Take another listen - go watch the 'Walking on Air' video and then tell me you disagree. (As long as we're on the subject of videos, does the video for her song 'Love is Dead' remind anybody else of a certain Heart Shaped Box?).

What it boils down to: her sound is pretty spectacular and her performance at the Scream Awards was utterly fantastic. Kerli is the next big pop sensation, mark my words. What did you think of the televised version of Kerli's Scream Awards performance? Did you love it or hate it? Do you hear any Bjork similarities, or is Kerli just another Britney wannabe?

Whether you just can't decide or just can't get enough, check out the gallery of photos from Kerli's Scream 2008 performance that I posted earlier today, and read what she dished to Buzznet about trick-or-treating, The Exorcist, and her old frog costume. And don't forget to add Walking on Air and Kerli's other songs to your Buzznet music player.

Click here for the highlights from the 2008 Scream Awards.
Looking for newageamazon's live-blog? It's over here.
Buzznet caught up with Gerard Way on the red carpet at the show. Click here to find out what he told us.[/cut]

So if we told you a gaggle of gorgeous movie stars, rock legends, scary monsters and superfreaks were all squeezed together in one party the other night in Hollywood, you’d be like, um, what else is new, right? We get it, but this was different — for one thing, it’s going to be on TV; and for another, Gerard Way showed up to speak from inside a space pod. [cut=There's more...]Yep, we snagged a pass to the Spike TV Scream Awards, which they bill as the biggest award show dedicated to the whole horror, sci-fi, fanboy (and girl) aesthetic. Sure, we went mainly to see the moonlight gleam off of Billy Corgan’s head, but the guest list did not disappoint, and neither did the action.

A totally dazzling guest list, which included the likes of Hell Boy Ron Perlman, Jared Padalecki from Supernatural, Penelope Cruz, AnnaLynne McCord of 90210, John Hensley and Jess Weixler of Teeth, The Dark Knight's Gary Oldman, graphic novel genius Frank Miller (responsible for Sin City and the 300, among others). Also in attendance was the brains behind Marvel Comics - Stan Lee himself, along with My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, the Suicide Girls, Seann William Scott (better known as Stiffler), George Lucas (who needs no introduction), Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez, and horror movie mastermind Wes Craven - to name a few. Check out the featured gallery for some slick visuals.

Other highlights:

TWILIGHT: An EPIC world premiere of seriously terrifying proportions from the upcoming, highly anticipated feature film based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. Did I mention it was introduced by (which means I was in the same room as) cast member Cam Gigandet? I've never read the books and I'm totally not a superfan, but I can tell you with utmost sincerity that TWILIGHT IS GOING TO RULE. Watch the show on Tuesday to see if you agree.

A legendary entrance by Tim Burton, who floated down from the sky in a basket held up by balloons. Very cool, though we’re not entirely sure this isn’t how he gets around anyway:

The Smashing Pumpkins performance was the principal reason I was stoked to cover the show. Press passes didn't include access to the event, so lucky for me a celebrity guest tossed a VIP ticket my way, and told me to "get the scoop." His awesome act of kindness enabled me to fulfill a Junior High fantasy, and see the Smashing Pumpkins. Even though they only performed their new single, "G.L.O.W." I was totally psyched to see the Smashing Pumpkins, and taking pics of their performance was SO worth getting kicked out. Check out the Smashing Pumpkins gallery here.

Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez blew in like a bunch of wasted teenagers. (Note for next time, boys: walk the red carpet first, THEN sample the absinthe.) I have a funny feeling that Manson puts on an act for the press because I've seen interviews he's done and he usually appears to be an intelligent man, and totally composed. I didn't expect to see him swagger down the red carpet, late, using Twiggy to keep himself from falling over. He did give us some insight into what he's currently getting into - "I'm making a record with this guy," he announced, and pointed at Twiggy. His whole attitude reeked of disrespect, and aside from the gold-trimmed Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses that adorned Marilyn's mug, both members of the Manson Family looked totally disgusting:

And the finale: About 30 seconds before the Smashing Pumpkins finished their song, security kicked me out of the entire event for taking photos inside. Considering that I wasn't supposed to be there in the first place, and I'd basically seen everything I was hoping for, it didn't phase me much. But it totally freaked them out, and 3 peoplep tried to make me delete my 500+ pics. Obviously that didn't happen, and I found my way back inside to watch Gerard Way present from inside a space pod. That ruled.

Looking for newageamazon's Scream Awards liveblog?
EXCLUSIVE: Gerard Way on Zombies and Hair Color at the 2008 Scream Awards

Many of you have already seen photos of My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way on the red carpet at last night's Scream Awards. I've heard several reactions that all seem to say that fans are pretty shocked at his hair (it's not pink anymore!) and by his "ugly" shoes (brown, knee-high round-toed boots). Well stop freaking out because I was there, I had a camera, I took pictures of him, and [cut=I asked Gerard a couple questions on your behalf.] I asked Gerard a couple questions on your behalf. EXTREMELY on your behalf. If it were left up to me I would've asked him something about whether or not he was actually planning to turn the Tom Waits/William Burroughs musical "The Black Rider" into a graphic novel - because that's what I'm interested in. But time was of the essence, so I only got the skinny on how he'd survive the Zombie Apocalypse and why his hair was no longer red - s'cuse me, pink (he corrected me.) All of this while literally staring up into his nostrils. Seriously. Look:

His hair doesn't look that bad. I thought you guys hated it when he dyed it pink? And now that it's pretty freshly black you're complaining? What do you want from the man? Should he just shave his head? I asked him why he changed the color again, and he told me, "Because I was in a wedding, and the pink didn't match the wedding." You'd go from pink back to black too, if you were gonna be in a wedding and your hair didn't match the decor. Cut him some slack. He is not "going Michael Jackson" on you like I've seen in some recent comments. When I asked Gerard whose wedding it was, he merely responded with, "a friend..." and continued to wring his hands and stare at me nervously:

I told him regardless, you guys were all gonna freak out when you saw the photos and he laughed a little. He seemed pretty excited to answer my next question, though, "So, Buzznet wants to know how you, Gerard, would survive the Zombie Apocalypse." He sat on this one for a while - quite a while. I think everyone around me was pretty pissed off because they wanted to ask him stupid stuff about how he was feeling about the Umbrella Academy's nomination for Best New Comic Book, and if the movie rumors were true (they are.) All of these are totally relevant questions, but in the interest of YOU GUYS, I really only had to know why his hair wasn't pink and how he'd survive when Zombies attack. After looking at the sky for a bit and a lot of "Hmmm"-ing, Gerard quietly replied, "..... I wouldn't. Yea. I wouldn't survive at all. No chance. I'd get eaten." And shrugged his shoulders. Ladies, I'm no MCR fangirl but I'll admit - it was pretty damn cute. Made me wish I had a video cam so I could show you all the whole thing, but I figured really close up body shots and getting some of these answers would be suitable enough. ;-)

Finally, stop dogging on the man's boots already! They were downright AMAZING, and were honestly the first thing I noticed when I spotted him. I had to digest what I was looking at before I realized they were on Gerard Way's feet. Extreme close-up:

Those are not, by any means, what I would consider "ugly" boots. I might re-think the brown with the black issue but I'm telling you those things must've cost a fortune. And they were pretty damn perfect for the segment in the space pod he did at the end of the show. I refuse to give you spoilers, so you'll have to watch the show on Tuesday October 21st to find out what I mean. Newageamazon is liveblogging the event, so don't forget to check that out - it's sure to be a... scream!

What do you guys think? Do you hate or love the Gee's new hair? How about the boots? Do you think the Umbrella Academy will win best comic? Discuss in the comments, and sit tight because I have more photos from the Scream Awards and tons more crazy dirt to spill about the event.
Hey, Hey, You, You, I’m Still Married to My Boyfriend: Avril Lavigne Stays Solid

It’s been a royally whacked-out couple of months for a certain mf’ing princess. First, Avril canceled a batch of dates on her Best Damned Thing headline tour, and instead opted to open for Disney phenom the Jonas Brothers and American Idol phenom Chris Daughtry. And in case that wasn’t enough, she recently found herself battling tabloid reports about the supposed implosion of her marriage! Drag, right? Sometimes not even a sale at Kohl’s can make things better. [cut=But things get better...]

Anyhow, Avril — with what do you know, her prince — appeared on stage last night as part of her private gig, the Nokia Productions Premiere. The singer’s hubby and Sum-41 front man Deryck Whibley performed a song or two on stage with his rock and roll wifey. Rumors that the kids were splitting up seem to have originated on The National Enquirer, and somehow made it all the way to a blast at TMZ.

THIS IS THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE, PEOPLE. Not exactly known for credibility. Anyway, a post on Absolutepunk.net cleared the air, directing fans to a myspace blog post containing official statements from Whibley who claimed that the split tales were nothing but "totally false gossip." The artist also added that he could “not believe so many media sources picked up the story." Me neither Deryck. Me neither. To further clear things up, Splash News snapped the couple walking hand-in-hand while dining in Los Angeles before last night’s performance.

Now that we’ve sorted out all the gossip, lets take a look at what else went down at Los Angeles Nokia Theater last night:

Avril looked STUNNING in just a pink and white striped polo shirt (View live photos from the show in our featured photo gallery) What was everyone else wearing? Check out the Buzznet’s fan-fashion gallery here.

But maybe the coolest part — to be fair — had nothing to do with whether Avril likes your boyfriend or not. It was about free expression. Nokia and Spike Lee debuted what they billed as the first social film, created entirely with content recorded and and uploaded from Nokia phones by YOU. Well, maybe not YOU, but a bunch of people just like you. Nokia Productions debuted the film2.0 at the event, and you can see the trailer at their website.

Finally, of course, everyone has to keep up with everyone else – so they hosted a Mobile Guitar Hero competition, open to all attendees. I didn’t even know they had Guitar Hero for cell phones, but apparently everyone else did. The competition was pretty intense, and check out how stoked the winners were!

Add your favorite Avril Lavigne songs to your Buzznet Music Library, and don’t forget to live vicariously through us – view the concert gallery.

(All photo credit: Fever Dragon Photography)
[/cut]
